Galløkken Strand is a sandy beach located immediately south of Rønne Harbour on the island of Bornholm. The beach stretches approximately 1.1 kilometres and is secured with groynes, with sand between them. Water depth increases gradually from the shore to 2 metres approximately 200 metres from land. Seabed conditions with reefs and deeper areas are changeable and depend on wind and current.

Water

Coastal marine water with stable salinity between 7 and 8 ‰. Water depth reaches 2 metres approximately 200 metres from shore. Current direction and speed depend on wind conditions, generally low except during strong winds.

Location

Situated south of Rønne Harbour on Bornholm. Access is available from Søndre Allé/Arsenalvej, Strandvejen, and Rønne Havn/Skansevej. Multiple parking options are available near the beach. Hotels, camping facilities, and hostels are located in the immediate vicinity.

Facilities

Two rescue posts located along the beach with emergency numbers R 420 and R 430.

Water Quality

Water quality classified as excellent based on data from 2016–2019. Long-term monitoring data from the municipal control station indicates good water quality. No nearby sources of potential water pollution have been identified; properties in the surrounding area have separate sewerage systems.

Risks

Cyanobacterial blooms (Nodularia spumigena, Aphanizomenon flos-aquae and others) occur naturally in the surrounding Baltic Sea waters each year during the warm season (July–August), particularly in calm, sunny periods. These algae can accumulate in sludgy masses along exposed coasts and may produce toxins; ingestion should be avoided. Small children and dogs should not swim where algal concentrations are high. Seaweed and macroalgae can periodically wash ashore and produce seaweed odour. No cases of illness from algae among swimmers have been reported.
