Årø Odde is a 400-meter-long sandy beach located on the western part of Årø island facing Årø Sund, south of the harbour. The beach is 10–20 meters wide with fine sand and scattered small stones. The water is classified as brackish and offers views over Årø Sund and the island's natural landscape. The beach has been classified as excellent quality based on routine monitoring of indicator bacteria.

Water

Brackish water body in Årø Sund. The beach is 400 meters long and 10–20 meters wide. Water depth is less than 2 meters at 50 meters from the shore; depth increases rapidly offshore. Current direction is variable with no primary direction.

Location

Årø Odde is located on Årø island, south of the harbour on the western side facing Årø Sund. The island has approximately 150 permanent residents. A campsite is located on the eastern side of the island. Parking is available at the beach.

Season

Bathing season monitoring occurs annually, with classification reviewed each year in May before the season begins.

Water Quality

Water quality is classified as excellent based on routine monitoring conducted during the bathing season. Classification was calculated from control samples taken regularly between 2012 and 2015 and is reviewed annually before the bathing season begins. Monitoring focuses on E. coli and enterococcus bacteria as indicators of faecal contamination.

Risks

Risk of macroalgae (seaweed) wash-up at the water's edge. Low risk of cyanobacteria (blue-green algae) blooms. Low risk of phytoplankton blooms. Low risk of chemical contamination such as oil spills. Glass shards and litter may occur. Sudden contamination can occur from accidents involving pleasure boats, slurry tanks, or sewage pipes.
