Gammelbro Camping beach is located in Årøsund near Haderslev, Denmark, and extends 800 metres in length with widths up to 30 metres. The beach consists primarily of fine sand with small and medium-sized stones scattered evenly across it. The seabed in front of the beach is predominantly fine sand. A natural area adjacent to the beach creates a pleasant atmosphere, and the beach is accessible via Gammelbrovej leading to a parking area north of the campground.

Water

Brackish water in Lillebælt. The beach is 800 metres long and up to 30 metres wide. Water depth is under 2 metres for 200 metres from the coast. Current direction is variable, primarily from the south.

Location

The beach is located at Gammelbro Camping in Årøsund, accessible via Gammelbrovej, which leads to a parking area north of the campground.

Bathing season monitoring occurs during the official bathing season.

Water Quality

Water quality is classified as Excellent. Classification is based on routine sampling during the bathing season analysing for E. coli and enterococci bacteria. Classification is revised annually before the bathing season begins. Classification was calculated from samples taken regularly between 2012 and 2015.

Risks

A drainage outlet on the northern part of the beach may contain high concentrations of faecal bacteria during rainfall and swimming is not recommended at or in front of this outlet. Risk of cyanobacteria (blue-green algae) bloom is low. Risk of phytoplankton bloom is low. Risk of macroalgae accumulation is low. Glass shards and litter may occur on the beach. Risk of chemical pollution such as oil spills is very low. Sudden pollution from accidents such as pleasure boats, slurry tanks, or sewer pipes is possible.
