Råde Strand

Denmark Coastal 1 - Excellent

Råde Strand is a 550-meter-long beach composed primarily of small and medium-sized stones with smaller areas of fine sand. The beach is surrounded by a small forest area, creating an intimate atmosphere, and backed by agricultural land. Water depth remains under 2 meters for approximately 200 meters from the shore. The beach is classified as having excellent bathing water quality based on regular monitoring for fecal indicator bacteria.

Water

Brackish water in Lillebælt. The beach is 550 meters long and 20 meters wide. The seabed consists primarily of medium-sized and large stones. Water depth is under 2 meters approximately 200 meters from the shore. Current direction is variable, primarily from the south.

Location

Råde Strand is located in Haderslev Kommune, Denmark. Access is via Tonneshøjvej, which ends at a small car park adjacent to the beach. Tonneshøj Lejrcenter is located nearby.

Facilities

Car park at the beach entrance. Waste bins located at the car park. A warning sign for poor bathing water quality is present (location shown on site map).

Season

The bathing water quality classification is revised annually in May before the bathing season begins.

Water Quality

Water quality is classified as excellent. Classification is based on regular monitoring for E. coli and enterococci indicator bacteria, with samples taken throughout the bathing season. Classification was calculated from control samples taken regularly during 2012-2015 and is revised annually before the bathing season begins.

Risks

Risk of cyanobacteria blooms is low. Risk of phytoplankton blooms is low. Risk of large quantities of macroalgae wash-up is low. Risk of chemical pollution such as oil spills is very low. Glass fragments and litter can occasionally occur. Sudden contamination from incidents such as recreational boats, slurry tanks, or sewage pipes is possible.
