Tamdrup Strand

Tamdrup Strand is a 230-meter-long beach located near the small summer house area of Tamdrup on Lillebælt strait. The beach consists primarily of fine sand with small stones and shells, with larger stones and shells at the water's edge. The seabed offshore consists of fine sand with small to medium-sized stones. The beach is 5-10 meters wide and features several bathing piers along its length. The surrounding area is green and partly enclosed by woodland to the southeast.

Water

Lillebælt strait, classified as brackish water. Water depth is less than 2 meters at 100 meters from the shore. The area is shallow with gradually increasing depth towards the coast. Current direction is primarily from the northwest.

Location

Tamdrup Strand is located 1 km from Tamdrup in Haderslev Kommune. Access is via Tamdrupvej, which leads to a parking area at the beach.

Facilities

Parking area at the beach. Trash bins located at the parking area. Several bathing piers along the beach.

Season

1 June to 1 September. The bathing water classification is revised annually in May before the start of the bathing season.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Excellent. The classification is based on routine sampling conducted from 2012-2015 for indicator bacteria (E. coli and enterococci). No health-threatening concentrations of fecal bacteria have been historically measured during the bathing season. The beach is regularly monitored during the official bathing season.

Risks

Risk of macroalgae (seaweed) accumulation at the water's edge. Rain sewers on both sides of the access road carry risk of high fecal bacteria concentrations during rainy weather. A watercourse outlet 100 meters southeast of the beach may periodically contain high concentrations of fecal bacteria; bathing is advised against at this outlet. Risk of blue-green algae blooms is low. Risk of phytoplankton blooms is low. Glass shards and litter may occur at the beach. Risk of chemical pollution such as oil spills is very low. Sudden contamination from accidents involving pleasure boats, manure tanks, or sewage pipes is possible.
