Badeanstalten is a bathing facility located at the end of Vallensbæk Harbour mole in Denmark. The water is salt with a relatively low salinity of approximately 1%. Water depth exceeds 3–4 metres with a sandy bottom and occasional stones. The facility is situated in an artificial nature and outdoor recreation area that also provides coastal flood protection for nearby urban areas.

Water

Saltwater bay (Køge Bugt). Water depth greater than 3–4 metres. Sandy bottom with occasional stones. Salinity approximately 1%. Currents in the upper part of Køge Bugt are highly variable and wind-dependent, but rarely strong or dangerous for swimmers.

Location

Vallensbæk, at the end of Vallensbæk Havnevej on the mole in the centre of Vallensbæk Harbour. The facility lies between Vallensbæk Harbour and Vallensbæk Strand in an urban area.

Water Quality

Classified as excellent quality based on bathing water analyses from 2020–2022. Risks from faecal pollution sources during heavy rainfall: discharge from Strandpark Lakes (which can receive wastewater overflow and water from Lille Vejleå), overflow from Store Vejle stream, and rare impacts from Avedøre Wastewater Treatment Centre overflow. Cyanobacteria risk exists due to nutrient loads from treated wastewater and agriculture; Ishøj Strand and Strandparken typically affected once every 4–5 years. Oil film pollution possible due to harbour location.

Risks

Heavy rainfall can cause elevated faecal pollution values. Cyanobacteria (blue-green algae) may occur in toxic varieties, typically once every 4–5 years. Oil film from harbour activity may occur. Sailing boats present in harbour area. Macroalgae (seaweed) can occur in the harbour but rarely in significant quantities.
