Badeanstalten, Skansen is a fine, child-friendly sandy beach located on Lambo Farvandet on southern Lolland near Nysted. The beach is approximately 230 metres long and 10–20 metres wide with a sandy bottom and very shallow water, with depths around 1 metre for the first 350 metres from shore. The beach is bordered by scattered trees and shrubs providing shade. Water temperature in the bathing season ranges from 14–24 °C.

Water

Brackish water body classified as Lambo Farvandet. Water currents predominantly from east-southeast (30% of measurements) and east (26% of measurements). Water temperature 14–24 °C during bathing season.

Location

Located near Nysted on southern Lolland. Access via Skansevej road or bus line 730 to Nysted Rutebilstation. Parking available at the end of Skansevej.

Facilities

Toilets, changing facilities, beach volleyball courts and nets, bathing bridge, kiosk, green areas with tables and benches, rescue triangle. Nysted Camping and the town of Nysted are located north of the beach.

Season

Monitoring and bathing season from 1 May to 1 September. At least 6 water samples are collected during this period for quality control.

Water Quality

Water quality classified as excellent according to Danish Regulation no. 939 of 18/09/2012, based on data from 2011–2014. No exceedances of bathing water quality requirements occurred during the monitoring period. No significant faecal contamination identified.

Risks

Cyanobacteria (blue-green algae) blooms may occur, especially during prolonged warm, sunny weather with easterly winds, potentially causing headaches, skin irritations, fever, nausea and diarrhoea. Macroalgae (seaweed) can accumulate at the waterline and harbour bacteria. Glass shards, litter, oil spills and other chemical pollution may occasionally occur. Sudden contamination can occur from yacht accidents, manure tanks and sewer lines.
