Bagenkop Sommerland is a 650-meter-long beach located on the west coast of Langeland, north of Bagenkop town, facing Marstal Bay. The beach consists of fine sand with scattered small and medium-sized stones, and is 20-30 meters wide. A large wetland area called Ågab lies to the east of the beach, contributing to its scenic appeal. The beach is classified as excellent water quality based on routine monitoring of fecal indicator bacteria.

Water

Brackish water in Marstal Bay. Water depth increases gradually, reaching less than 2 meters at 150 meters from the shore. The seabed consists of fine sand. Current direction is variable, primarily from the north.

Location

Bagenkop Sommerland is located on Langeland's west coast, north of Bagenkop town in Marstal Bay. Access is via Færgevej road, which leads to a parking area where toilet facilities are available. The beach is situated south of Strandgårdens Camping and north of Bagenkop Harbor.

Parking area, toilet facilities with drinking water, first aid kit, lifesaving ring, emergency telephone, handicap facilities, warning signs for degraded water quality, blue flag.

1 June to 1 September.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Excellent. The classification is based on routine monitoring of two fecal indicator bacteria (E. coli and enterococci) conducted during the bathing season. The classification meets required standards and is revised annually before the bathing season begins. Monitoring data from 2007-2010 forms the basis for the current classification.

Risks

Small stream 'Afløb fra Klisenor' at the northern end may contain high fecal bacteria concentrations during certain periods; swimming in this stream is discouraged. Rainwater pipe at the southern end poses risk of high fecal bacteria during heavy rain. Pump station 500 meters south of the beach has emergency overflow that may discharge wastewater into Marstal Bay during heavy rain. Low risk of cyanobacteria blooms. Low risk of phytoplankton blooms. Low risk of large seaweed accumulations. Glass shards, debris, and chemical pollution including oil spills may occur.
