Lido di Viverone is a grassy lakeside bathing area with equipped zones and paved promenade along artificial banks. The lake bottom consists of sandy substrates that are strongly sloping in the initial section and gradually becoming more gentle, with partial presence of stones. The bathing area extends over 1.534 km at an altitude of 230 metres above sea level.

Lake of Viverone. Bathing area extends 1.534 km. Beach width measures 2 to 2.5 metres. Water depth transitions from strongly sloping to gradually sloping substrates.

Location

Located in Viverone, province of Biella, Piedmont region, in northeastern Italy. The bathing area is situated on the eastern shore of Lake Viverone. Parking is available at the site.

Beach equipment rental, boat and pedalo rental, nautical driving school, bar, toilet facilities, parking.

Water Quality

Classification: Excellent. Based on 18 routine samples from 2020–2023. Escherichia coli 90th percentile: 94.2 MPN/100 ml; 95th percentile: 185.1 MPN/100 ml. Enterococci 90th percentile: 36.6 MPN/100 ml; 95th percentile: 59.1 MPN/100 ml. Urban wastewater is collected by a circumlacustrine collector that terminates at a treatment plant in Azeglio (Turin).

Risks

Two outfall structures located 300–400 metres from the monitoring point may affect bathing water quality. Possible contamination from undersizing of the collector and inadequate technical design of outfall structures during intense tourist influx without proper maintenance. Lake is subject to significant blooms of aquatic macrophytes (Ceratophyllum demersum, Myriophyllum spicatum). Cyanobacterial monitoring is conducted during bathing season due to strong eutrophication; one of 16 cyanobacterial samples in the last four years showed density greater than or equal to 20,000 cells/ml. Vessels may release mineral oils and fuel.
