Comunale-Masseria is a bathing area on the grassy shoreline of Lake Viverone with an artificial embankment. The sandy bottom slopes gently with medium-sized stones present. The area includes a campground with a pebble beach approximately 1.5 metres wide, equipped lawns, boat storage facilities, and small wooden docks serving private residences.

Water Quality

Classification: Excellent. Based on 19 routine samples from 2020–2023. Escherichia coli: 90th percentile 11.1 MPN/100 ml, 95th percentile 16.9 MPN/100 ml. Enterococci: 90th percentile 43.8 MPN/100 ml, 95th percentile 74.8 MPN/100 ml. A circumlacual collector system handles urban wastewater and discharges to a treatment plant in Azeglio. Impact indicator classified as medium-low, determined by wastewater class III.

Risks

Stormwater drainage within the bathing zone may influence water quality. Potential short-duration pollution events from the circumlacual collector overflow during heavy rainfall and possible sewer pipe leaks. Vessels may release mineral oils or fuel. Possible phytoplankton proliferation. The lake experiences consistent blooms of aquatic macrophytes (Ceratophyllum demersum, Myriophyllum spicatum); mowing is performed to maintain water access. Cyanobacterial monitoring is conducted during the bathing season due to lake eutrophication, though no significant cyanobacterial densities were detected in the last four years. No toxic effects on bathers or ecosystems have been recorded.
