Bagni Luca is a bathing beach in Fano with fine quartz and feldspar sand mixed with calcareous shelly material. The beach has a gentle slope of 1–3% both above and below water and is protected by artificial breakwaters. The distance between medium-low and high water (safe water limit) is 80 metres, with an astronomical tidal range of 30–50 centimetres. The surrounding area is urban with a railway line passing through.

Coastal marine water body. Average beach width: 29 metres. Water body area: 0.22937 (units not specified). The beach is part of the Fano–Senigallia water body within the coastal area between the Metauro and Cesano rivers.

Location

Located in Fano, Pesaro Urbino Province, Marche Region, Italy. The beach has a reserved parking area for disabled persons with an accessible pathway from parking to beach.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: E. The area is served by three wastewater treatment plants. The main plant at Ponte Metauro near the Metauro river mouth treats approximately 12,000 cubic metres daily. The Bellocchi plant treats approximately 2,000 cubic metres daily. The Ponte Sasso plant treats 1,000–1,500 cubic metres daily in winter and 3,000–4,000 cubic metres daily in summer. Both Ponte Metauro and Ponte Sasso treatment plants conform to EU Directive 91/271/CE standards. During intense rainfall, overflow dischargers release wastewater at multiple points along the coast. All monitoring controls of treated water conform to legal limits. Microalgae blooms (Noctiluca scintillans, non-toxic) occurred in 2008 and 2009, causing water discolouration.
