Hotel Tosca is a bathing beach in Fano with fine quartz-feldspar and limestone-flint sand. The beach has a gentle slope of 1–3% across both the emerged and submerged areas and is protected by artificial rocky outcrops. The distance between average low and high water levels spans approximately 80 metres, with astronomical tidal range of 30–50 centimetres. The surrounding area is densely urbanised with a railway line passing through.

Coastal marine water body designated Fano_Senigallia. Beach width averages 64 metres. Area extends 0.20556 (units not specified). Located on the coastline between Metauro and Cesano rivers.

Facilities

Lifeguards and first aid service available. Disabled access with accessible toilets and pathway to sea. Recreational facilities including volleyball and basketball courts, children's play area, and elastic structures. Refreshment point. One concession beach area and one free beach area. Animals not permitted.

Water Quality

Classification: Category E (poor). Water quality monitoring conducted with 12 controls annually for Table 1 parameters and 6 controls annually for Table 3 parameters under Legislative Decree 152/2006, all results conforming to legal limits. Slight temporary increase in microbiological parameters identified as event of brief duration. Microalgae bloom (non-toxic Noctiluca scintillans) occurred in 2008 and 2009 bathing seasons, causing unusual water discolouration.

Risks

One mixed water discharge structure connected to Ponte Sasso treatment plant discharges near the waterline on the free sandy beach. During intense rainfall events, overflow discharge structures activate, with 7 overflow points from Ponte Metauro system and 10 from Ponte Sasso system affecting the coastal area. Non-toxic microalgae bloom (Noctiluca scintillans) occurred in 2008 and 2009, causing water discolouration.
