A bathing water located at Via Faa di Bruno n. 24 in Fano, comprising one concessioned area and one free beach. The beach features fine sand of quartz, feldspar, and calcareous composition with a medium slope of 1–3%. The beach is protected by artificial emerging reefs, with an average distance of 80 metres to the waterline at safe water limits. The surrounding area is densely urbanized with a railway line passing through.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: E. The coastal tract is served by the Ponte Sasso treatment plant (serving 10,000–49,999 population equivalents), operated by ASET. The treatment plant complies with Directive 91/271/CE standards. Monthly controls of microbiological and physicochemical parameters have all been compliant with legal limits over the past four years. One combined sewer overflow discharges from a 400 mm diameter pipe at the beach.

Risks

Light increases in microbiological parameters during rainfall events due to combined sewer overflows from Ponte Sasso treatment plant (10 overflow structures). Non-toxic microalgae bloom (Noctiluca scintillans) occurred in 2008 and 2009, causing unusual water discoloration.
