Bildsø Strand is a sandy beach located on the open coast facing west in Slagelse Municipality, Denmark. The beach is between 20 and 30 metres wide and approximately 650 metres long, with fine sand and a seabed composed of sand without seaweed and stones up to approximately 2 metres depth. The water is classified as saltwater and has been classified as excellent quality based on monitoring data from 2012 to 2017. The beach is situated on Musholm Bay and Storebælt.

Water

Saltwater beach on the open coast. The beach is 20–30 metres wide and approximately 650 metres long. The seabed to approximately 2 metres depth consists of sand without seaweed and stones. Distance to 2 metres depth is between 300 and 380 metres from shore. Reef formation begins 60–80 metres from the coast. Water depth varies due to tidal movements, currents, and weather conditions.

Location

Bildsø Strand is located approximately 3 kilometres west of the village of Bildsø in Slagelse Municipality. Access is via Drøsselbjergvej, which leads to a car park at the north-eastern corner of Bildsø Forest. A path through the forest connects the car park to the beach.

Facilities

Parking at the north-eastern corner of Bildsø Forest. Toilets. Information board at toilets for pollution warnings. No bathing platform. First aid equipment available.

Water Quality

Water quality is classified as excellent based on monitoring data from 2012–2017. Monitoring is conducted 10 times per year. The dominant current direction is from the north (50% of measurements). No correlation has been found between current direction and increased pollution. Risk of short-term pollution exists near the outlet of Bildsø Å stream, particularly during extreme rainfall. Potential pollution sources include field drains and inadequately treated wastewater from properties in the Bildsø Å catchment area, and septic tanks and infiltration systems in nearby summer house areas.

Risks

Risk of short-term fecal pollution during extreme rainfall events from Bildsø Å stream outlet and from septic tank systems in adjacent summer house areas. Low risk of cyanobacteria blooms. Risk of seaweed wash-up, though currents typically carry it away within days. Occasional glass shards, rubbish, and chemical pollution including oil spills may occur. Sudden pollution from incidents involving recreational boats, manure tanks, and sewage pipes is possible.
