Næsby Strand is a sandy beach on the open west-facing coast in Slagelse Municipality, Denmark. The beach is between 20 and 25 metres wide and approximately 380 metres long, bordered by vegetation toward the inland. The seabed to about 2 metres depth consists of sand without seaweed and stones, with reef formations beginning 50 to 80 metres from the shore. Water depth at the beach is relatively small, extending 150 to 200 metres to reach 2 metres depth. The water is classified as saltwater.

Saltwater coastal beach. Beach dimensions: 20–25 metres wide, approximately 380 metres long. Seabed composition: sand without seaweed and stones to approximately 2 metres depth. Reef formations present 50–80 metres from shore. Water depth at beach relatively shallow; 150–200 metres distance to reach 2 metres depth. Dominant current direction: from the south (45% of measurements).

Location

Slagelse Municipality, Denmark. Access via Bildsøvej to the beach, with a parking area immediately thereafter. A path leads from the parking area to the beach. The beach opens onto Musholm Bay.

Facilities

Parking area. Information board at parking area for water quality alerts. Lifeguard post indicated on map. Toilet facilities indicated on map. No bathing pier installed by Slagelse Municipality.

Water Quality

Water quality classified as excellent based on data from 2012–2017. Monitoring conducted 6 times per year. Potential pollution sources identified: Tude Å stream outlet approximately 500 metres south of beach (fecal contamination risk from field drainage, potential untreated wastewater, and treatment plant overflow during extreme rainfall); summer house area drainage systems (risk of fecal contamination during extreme rainfall); field drainage systems conducting water directly through summer house area to Storebælt 300–900 metres north of beach. Risk from extreme rainfall events assessed as moderate for short-term contamination. Slagelse Municipality recommends avoiding swimming for 3 days following extreme rainfall.

Risks

Risk of blue-green algae blooms assessed as low. Seaweed (tang) regularly washes ashore but typically washes out again within days; bathing near large quantities of washed-up seaweed not recommended. Glass shards, litter, and chemical contamination including oil spills may occasionally occur. Sudden pollution possible from boat accidents, slurry tanks, and sewer line failures. Plankton blooms possible but not known to cause illness from swimming in open areas of Denmark.
