Stillinge Strand

Stillinge Strand is a sandy beach located on the open west-facing coast in Slagelse Municipality, Denmark. The beach is between 25 and 50 metres wide and approximately 310 metres long, composed of fine sand and small stones. The seabed extends to approximately 2 metres depth with sand, without seaweed or stones. Water has been classified as excellent quality based on data from 2012–2017.

Water

Saltwater beach in Musholm Bay/Storebælt. The seabed consists of sand without seaweed or stones extending to 2 metres depth. Ridge formation occurs between approximately 80 and 100 metres from the shore. Water depth at the beach ranges from 180 to 225 metres to reach 2 metres depth, though these measurements vary due to tidal action, currents, and weather conditions.

Location

Stillinge Strand is situated approximately 2 kilometres south of Bildsø Å outlet and approximately 900 metres north of Støvlebæk outlet. Access is via Stillingevej and Stillinge Strandvej leading to a car park 480 metres from the beach. Disabled parking and additional facilities are located approximately 50 metres from the beach.

Water Quality

Water quality is classified as excellent based on monitoring data from 2012–2017. Monitoring is conducted 10 times per year. Potential fecal contamination sources include Bildsø Å, Støvlebæk, and Tude Å; however, dominant current directions (from south 53% and north 47% of measurements) generally carry water away from the bathing area. The impact on bathing water quality is assessed as small to moderate from these sources.

Risks

Risk of fecal contamination during extreme rainfall. Summer house area relies on septic tanks and seepage systems with high groundwater levels, increasing fecal contamination risk during extreme rainfall. Low risk of cyanobacteria blooms. Seaweed accumulation occurs but is typically washed away within days; regular removal is performed during bathing season. Risk of sporadic contamination from boat accidents, slurry tanks, and sewer lines. Glass fragments, rubbish, and chemical pollution including oil spills may occasionally occur.
