St. Kongsmark Strand is a sandy beach on the open west-facing coast in Slagelse Municipality, Denmark. The beach is relatively small, between 10 and 30 metres wide and approximately 450 metres long, bordered by coastal cliffs on the landward side. The seabed to approximately 2 metres depth consists of sand with seaweed and stones, with reef formation beginning 40 to 80 metres from the shore. The water is classified as saltwater.

Water

Saltwater beach on Musholm Bay and the Great Belt (Storebælt). The seabed consists of sand with seaweed and stones. Water depth is relatively shallow, reaching 2 metres depth at distances between 225 and 300 metres from the shore. Dominant current direction is from the north.

Location

Located in Slagelse Municipality, Denmark, approximately 800 metres south of the Støvlebæk stream outlet and about 2.5 kilometres west of the village of Kirke Stillinge. Access is via Kongsmarksvej with parking available at a car park on Støvlebækvej.

Water Quality

Water quality is classified as excellent, based on data from 2012 to 2017. Monitoring is conducted 6 times per year. Identified potential pollution sources include the Støvlebæk stream and Almind Rende watercourse, which carry fecal contamination from unsewered properties and field drainage systems, though their impact on the bathing water at Kongsmark Strand is considered minor. Sewage overflows from the village of Kirke Stillinge may also affect water quality.

Risks

Low risk of cyanobacterial blooms. Risk of seaweed wash-up, though typically dispersed within days. Occasional occurrences of glass shards, litter, and chemical contamination including oil spills. Sudden pollution from boat incidents, slurry tanks, and sewage lines may occur. Following extreme rainfall, swimming is discouraged for 3 days.
