Binderup Strand

Binderup Strand is a wide, child-friendly beach located below a large summer house area in Bjert, Denmark. The beach is 300 meters long and composed of fine sand with few stones. It offers excellent facilities including a large parking area, toilets with disabled access, an ice cream stand, and a grilling house. A large bathing pier with a wheelchair ramp provides water access.

Water

The beach borders Lillebælt and is classified as brackish water. Water depth increases gradually from the shore and is shallow, with depth under 2 meters approximately 200 meters from the coast. Current direction is variable and tide affects water depth.

Location

Located at Kystvej 98, 6091 Bjert, near Kolding Kommune, Denmark. The beach is designated as strandnummer G500 and has a large parking area. A stream outlet is located just south of the beach.

Large parking area, toilets with disabled access, ice cream stand, grilling house, bathing pier with wheelchair ramp, trash bins, lifeguard services during summer season, warning signs for water quality alerts.

Season

Routine water quality monitoring is conducted during the official bathing season. Classification is revised annually in May before the bathing season begins.

Water Quality

Water quality classification for 2020: Excellent. Classification is based on routine monitoring of E. coli and enterococci bacteria during the bathing season. Testing was conducted over four years (2016–2019). The beach is monitored regularly throughout the bathing season and classification is revised annually before the season begins.

Risks

A stream outlet just south of the beach carries risk of high fecal bacteria concentrations; swimming near and around the outlet is not recommended. Risk of cyanobacteria (blue-green algae) blooms is low but possible during extended warm periods with nutrient-rich water. Risk of phytoplankton blooms is low but possible. Macroalgae (seaweed) may wash ashore; swimming near large accumulations is not recommended. Glass shards and litter can occur on the beach. Sudden pollution from accidents involving pleasure boats, manure tanks, or sewer lines is possible.
