Grønninghoved Strand Nord

Denmark Coastal 1 - Excellent

Grønninghoved Nord is a fine, broad sandy beach composed primarily of fine white sand with few stones. The beach is 300 metres long and is situated near a larger holiday home area that creates a pleasant and lively atmosphere. The beach is located on the Little Belt (Lillebælt) in Denmark.

Water

Brackish water classified as such. Located on the Little Belt (Lillebælt). Water depth is less than 2 metres approximately 200 metres from the shore. Water level rises gradually and the area is shallow. Tidal variations affect water depth.

Kolding Municipality, Denmark. Address: Bakkevej Grønninghoved. Beach number G520. Toilet facilities are available at nearby Grønninghoved Syd Strand to the south.

Season

Bathing season (routine water sampling period) is during the summer months; classification is revised annually in May.

Water Quality

Classified as Excellent quality in 2020. Classification is based on routine water samples analysed for indicator bacteria (E. coli and enterococci) taken regularly during the bathing season over the preceding four years (2016-2019). Annual revision occurs before the bathing season starts.

Risks

A stream outlet north of the beach may contain high concentrations of faecal bacteria during certain periods; bathing at and around the outlet is discouraged. Multiple drains along the beach can discharge high concentrations of faecal bacteria during rainfall from animal waste. Risk of cyanobacteria (blue-green algae) blooms is low but possible. Risk of phytoplankton blooms is low but possible. Macroalgae (seaweed) may wash ashore at the water's edge. Glass shards and litter can occur at the beach.
