Fristrand

Denmark Coastal 1 - Excellent

Fristrand is a fine sandy beach located at the northern end of the large summer house area of Binderup. The beach stretches 100 metres along Lillebælt (Little Belt). The seafloor consists primarily of fine sand with few stones. A large green area with recreational facilities leads down to the beach, offering opportunities for play, sunbathing, and views over the water.

Water

Brackish water body on Lillebælt (Little Belt). Water depth increases gradually from the shore, reaching less than 2 metres approximately 200 metres from the coast. Current direction is variable. Water depth varies with tidal conditions.

Location

Northern end of Binderup summer house area. Parking available at the beach. Tables and benches are provided.

Season

Annual monitoring during the bathing season.

Water Quality

Classification (2020): Good. Monitoring is conducted regularly during the bathing season based on indicator bacteria E. coli and enterococci. Classification is reviewed annually in May before the bathing season begins. Within the beach boundary, a stream discharging from Vindemosen has low influence on bathing water quality under normal circumstances.

Risks

A stream north of the beach has the risk of periodically containing high concentrations of faecal bacteria; swimming is not recommended in and around this outlet. Risk of algal blooms (cyanobacteria and phytoplankton) is low but possible during prolonged periods of warmth and nutrient-rich water. Risk of macroalgae (seaweed) wash-up at the water's edge. Glass shards and litter may occur at the beach. Sudden contamination from accidents (leisure boats, slurry tanks, sewerage lines) is possible.
