Blåvand Strand at høfde 1 is located on the west coast south of Blåvandshuk in Varde Municipality. The beach and seabed consist primarily of sand, with gravel and stones occurring occasionally. The beach is approximately 70–110 meters wide depending on tide. Water quality at this bathing spot has the highest classification.

Water

Coastal water body in the North Sea (Vesterhavet). Water salinity is approximately 30‰. Depth and current conditions are highly variable due to tidal action, currents, sediment deposits, and weather conditions. Water generally becomes deep quickly. Sandbars (revels) run parallel to the coast.

Location

Varde Municipality, Denmark, on the west coast south of Blåvandshuk. Parking is available approximately 200 meters from the beach.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: EXCELLENT. Based on four years of monitoring (2020–2023), all years achieved excellent quality. Water is tested for Escherichia coli (E. coli) and intestinal enterococci as indicator bacteria. Fecal pollution risk is assessed as low due to the confined piped watercourse system serving the catchment area and the lack of direct sewage treatment plant discharge.

Risks

Strong rip currents can form between sandbars and flow seaward from the beach, potentially making it impossible to swim against them. Current direction in the North Sea is predominantly northward, but southward near the coast. Algal blooms may occur some years, typically foam-forming algae that are non-toxic but can cause skin irritation. Naturally occurring sea bacteria (Vibrio and Shewanella) are present but typically do not occur in large numbers at the west coast; blooms occur only when water temperature exceeds 20°C for prolonged periods.
