Strandmarken Strand is a beach located on the south coast of Bornholm, extending approximately 6 km between Bakkerne Boat Harbour and Dueodde. The beach is predominantly sandy with scattered stone deposits. Water depth increases gradually from the shore to 2 meters at approximately 100 meters from land. The seabed conditions with reefs and deeper areas are variable and depend on wind and current.

Water

Coastal beach water in the Baltic Sea. Approximately 6 km stretch. Water depth increases gradually to 2 meters at approximately 100 meters from shore. Salinity is stable at 7–8 ‰.

Location

South coast of Bornholm, accessed via Østre Sømarksvej, Sandvejen, Udegårdsvej, and Fyrvejen. Public parking and toilets are available at the end of these roads. Disabled access is available from Fyrvejen. A smokery with service operates at Bakkerne Boat Harbour and a kiosk and restaurant are located at Dueodde.

Lifeguard posts at parking areas (rescue numbers R 294, R 300, R 310, R 330). Public toilets and parking. Disabled access from Fyrvejen. Smokery with service at Bakkerne Boat Harbour. Kiosk and restaurant at Dueodde.

Water Quality

Water quality is classified as 'good' based on data from 2016–2019. Monitoring data from the municipal control station shows consistently high water quality. No wastewater pollution sources are present near the beach.

Risks

Blue-green algae blooms (Nodularia spumigena, Aphanizomenon flos-aqua) occur naturally each year, typically in July–August during warm, calm, sunny periods. Algae can concentrate in unpleasant masses along exposed coasts and may produce toxic substances. Wading through algae accumulations to reach clear water poses no risk, but ingestion should be avoided. Children and dogs should not bathe where algae is abundant. Kelp and other macroalgae can periodically drift onto the beach causing kelp odor, though this rarely affects longer sections. Wind and current affect water movement.
