Bogensø Strand

Bogensø Strand is a pleasant natural beach on the western side of Hindsholm facing Dalby Bay. The beach is 1,400 meters long and approximately 20 meters wide, composed of fine sand with scattered medium-sized stones and some stone breakwaters running across it. The seabed consists mainly of fine sand with small stones, and is periodically covered with medium-sized stones. A high cliff separates the beach from a summer cottage area, creating a very scenic natural setting.

Water

Saltwater in the Great Belt (Storebælt). Water depth increases gradually offshore, reaching approximately 2 meters at 200 meters from the coast. Current direction is variable but primarily flows from the west and southwest.

Location

Bogensø Strand is located on the western side of Hindsholm in Kerteminde Municipality, Denmark. The summer cottage area of Bogensø is situated at the southern end of the beach. Kerteminde Kommune is the responsible authority, with offices at Hans Schacksvej 4, 5300 Kerteminde.

Season

Routine water quality monitoring is conducted during the bathing season.

Water Quality

The bathing water is classified as EXCELLENT quality. Classification is based on routine monitoring for two indicator bacteria: E. coli and enterococci. Classification is updated annually before the bathing season begins, using data from the four preceding seasons.

Risks

Risk of cyanobacteria (blue-green algae) bloom is low. Risk of phytoplankton bloom is low. Risk of large accumulations of macroalgae (seaweed) is low. No known short-term pollution sources have been registered near Bogensø Strand. Occasional waste, broken glass, and chemical pollution including oil spills may occur. Sudden pollution from ship incidents, manure tanks, and sewer lines are possible.
