Måle Strand

Måle Strand is a 1,100-metre-long beach located approximately 1 kilometre east of Måle in a scenic natural area. The beach is composed of fine sand covered by a layer of small to medium-sized stones, with a seabed of similar stone composition. The beach is approximately 15 metres wide and water depth increases gradually, reaching approximately 1 metre at 200 metres from the shore. The bathing water has been classified as excellent quality based on routine monitoring of indicator bacteria.

Water

Storebælt saltwater. The water body is 1,100 metres long and approximately 15 metres wide. Water depth increases gradually, reaching approximately 1 metre at 200 metres from the shore. Current direction is variable but originates primarily from the west, south, and southwest.

Location

Måle Strand is situated approximately 1 kilometre east of Måle by in Kerteminde Municipality, Denmark. Access to the beach is via Stengårde Stænge, which ends at a parking area adjacent to the beach.

Season

Monitoring occurs during the bathing season. Classification is updated annually before the bathing season begins.

Water Quality

Bathing water classified as excellent quality. Classification is based on routine monitoring for E. coli and enterococci bacteria over the preceding four bathing seasons. A treated wastewater discharge from Kerteminde Treatment Plant is located 2 kilometres south of the beach, 600 metres offshore; this discharge is not considered to impact water quality at Måle Strand within the defined bathing area.

Risks

Risk of cyanobacteria bloom is low. Risk of phytoplankton bloom is low. Risk of large seaweed accumulation in the water is low. Occasional waste, glass shards, and chemical pollution including oil spills may occur. Sudden contamination can arise from ship incidents, slurry tanks, and sewage pipes.
