Hofmansgave is a fine, broad sandy beach located on the northeast coast of Funen facing the Kattegat. The beach is 900 metres long and 20–25 metres wide, featuring fine sand with scattered small and medium stones, and is bordered by stone jetties. The beach lies below a larger holiday home area separated by a green buffer zone, and is situated in scenic surroundings with green and vegetated areas, including the distinctive Enebærodde to the southeast.

Water

The water in Kattegat at this location is classified as brackish water. The seabed consists of fine sand with few small and medium stones. Water depth is under 2 metres at 50–100 metres from the shore. Current direction is variable, primarily from west or east.

Location

The beach is located on Funen's northeast coast. Access is via Hofmansgavevej, which leads to a large car park. Toilets with drinking water are available at the car park.

Season

Official monitoring season: 1 June to 1 September.

Water Quality

Water quality classification for 2016: Excellent. Classification is based on routine monitoring samples analysed for E. coli and enterococci. Samples are collected during the bathing season. The beach is designated for routine water quality monitoring from 1 June to 1 September.

Risks

An overflow structure located 900 metres northwest of the beach can discharge treated wastewater into the Kattegat during heavy rain if the sewer network becomes overloaded. The overflow is estimated to occur approximately 47 times per year but poses a risk to bathing water quality only under specific conditions. Risk of cyanobacteria (blue-green algae) blooms is low. Risk of phytoplankton blooms is low. Risk of large quantities of macroalgae wash-up is low. Risk of chemical pollution such as oil spills is very low. Glass shards and litter can occur.
