Bøløre Odde

Bøhløre Odde is a 350-metre-long sandy beach with scattered small stones located on the northern shore of Limfjorden near the small settlement of Bøhl in Denmark. The beach is approximately 30 metres wide and is situated below a large nature area. The water is classified as saltwater with currents primarily flowing from the west. The beach is equipped with parking, toilet facilities, and drinking water.

Water

Limfjorden, a saltwater fjord. Water depth rises to 4–7 metres off the point of Jegindø and more gradually to the west. The designated bathing area is 350 metres long and 30 metres wide. Current direction measurements from 2008–2010 show predominantly westerly currents.

Location

Located near Bøhl, a small community north of the beach on Limfjorden. Access via Bøhlørevej, which leads to a large parking area. Toilet facilities and drinking water are available at the parking area.

Season

Routine monitoring occurs during the official bathing season. Annual water quality classification revision takes place in May before the season begins.

Water Quality

Water quality is classified as Excellent, meeting the required standards. Classification is based on routine monitoring for E. coli and enterococcus bacteria during the bathing season from 2011–2014. Annual revision occurs each May before the bathing season starts. No fecal pollution sources capable of degrading water quality have been identified in the surrounding area.

Risks

Risk of cyanobacteria (blue-green algae) blooms is low. Risk of phytoplankton blooms is low. Risk of macroalgae (seaweed) washing ashore exists; bathing near large accumulations of seaweed is not recommended. Sudden contamination is possible from incidents such as spillage from pleasure boats, manure tanks, or sewage lines. Glass fragments, waste, and chemical pollution including oil spills may occur. Algae can produce toxins causing headaches, skin irritation, fever, nausea, and diarrhoea.
