Italy Lake 1 - Excellent

Ca' Rossa comprises two contiguous beaches on the eastern shore of Lake Caldonazzo in the Trentino-Alto Adige region. One beach is publicly owned with wooden jetties reserved for swimmers, featuring a steeply sloping bathing zone with a rocky and stony bottom; the other is privately owned with a grassy area and wooden jetty. Both beaches are situated in the mid-section of the lake's east bank, near the SS47 road, and consist of grassy vegetation. The public beach is adjacent to a municipal road closed to vehicle traffic.

Water

Lake Caldonazzo. The bathing area extends 1.3 km. Beach dimensions: approximately 125 metres long and 6 metres wide. Altitude: 449 metres above sea level. Basin: Brenta hydrographic basin.

Location

Pergine Valsugana, Trento province, Trentino-Alto Adige region. Located on the eastern shore of Lake Caldonazzo, below and near the SS47 della Valsugana road. Parking available for the private beach area, separated from the public beach by a noise barrier.

Facilities

Bar, restaurant. Wooden jetties. Disabled access via ramps. Animals not permitted.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Excellent (2016–2019). Total phosphorus concentration averaged 21 µg/l over the period 2014–2016. Nitrate concentrations remain well below vulnerability thresholds. Internal phosphorus loading from sediment release during anoxic periods represents approximately 28% of total phosphorus load. No point-source wastewater discharges into the lake; treated wastewater from the intercommunal sewerage system is released into the Brenta River. Risk of untreated sewage discharge into Torrente Mandola during heavy rainfall due to incomplete separation of municipal sewage networks.

Risks

Potential for short-term untreated sewage discharge into Torrente Mandola during intense rainfall. Cyanobacterial blooms and phytoplankton proliferation are potential water quality concerns; no toxic events reported in the past four years.
