Italy Lake 1 - Excellent

Tenna Beach is located on the eastern shore of Lake Caldonazzo in the Trentino Alto Adige region. The beach consists of a narrow flat strip that widens at the pedestrian underpass providing access to the area. The beach has grassy soil and artificial walkways with a significant slope and inconsistent gradient between the emerged and submerged zones.

Water

Lake Caldonazzo. The beach area covers 1.4 square kilometres at an altitude of 449 metres above sea level. Beach dimensions are 50 metres in length and 5–10 metres in width. The Brenta hydrographic basin.

Location

Tenna, Trentino Alto Adige region, province of Trento. Access via the SP 47 della Valsugana road or via trails from the municipality of Caldonazzo. Parking is available.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Excellent for the years 2016–2019. Average total phosphorus concentration for the period 2014–2016 was 21 µg/l. Nitrate concentrations are well below vulnerability thresholds. An internal phosphorus load from sediment release during anoxia is estimated to represent approximately 28 percent of total load. No focal contamination sources identified.

Risks

Internal phosphorus load from sediment. A sewage blockage caused by heavy rain occurred on 23–24 August 2013, resulting in modest discharges into the lake via stormwater channels; this was resolved within days and a bathing prohibition was revoked on 27 August 2013 following favourable microbiological test results. No toxic cyanobacterial events reported.
