Spiaggia Punta Indiani

Italy Lake 1 - Excellent

Punta Indiani is a pebble beach located on the western shore of Lake Caldonazzo in the intermediate zone, near the mouth of the Rio Spini stream. The beach has a gently sloping profile that extends seamlessly from the exposed shore into the submerged zone. It measures approximately 220 metres in length and 8 metres in width. The bathing water has been classified as excellent for the years 2016, 2017, 2018, and 2019.

Water

Lake Caldonazzo. The bathing area extends 1.35 square kilometres at an elevation of 449 metres above sea level. The water body is part of the Brenta hydrographic basin.

Location

Punta Indiani is located in Pergine Valsugana, Trentino-Alto Adige region, Trento province. The beach is situated on the west shore of Lake Caldonazzo, a short distance from the Valsugana Railway.

Facilities

Camping facilities are available. Private management.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Excellent (2016–2019). Total phosphorus concentration averaged 21 µg/l for the 2014–2016 period. Nitrate concentrations are well below vulnerability thresholds. An internal phosphorus load from sediment release during anoxic periods accounts for approximately 28% of total phosphorus load. No sewage discharges or other pressures directly affect the lake.

Risks

Potential cyanobacterial bloom (phytoplankton bloom of potentially toxic cyanobacteria) is identified as a proliferation type. Malfunctions of the pumping station at Calceranica could cause release of untreated sewage into the bathing area. During intense rainfall, inadequate separation of municipal sewer networks may allow untreated discharge into the Mandola stream due to backflow from the intercommunal collector.
