Spiaggia Lido San Cristoforo

Italy Lake 1 - Excellent

Lido di San Cristoforo is a sandy beach located at the northern end of Lake Caldonazzo in Trentino-Alto Adige. The beach has negligible slope and is consistent between the emerged and submerged zones. The beach measures approximately 235 metres in length and 12 metres in width. The water has been classified as excellent for the years 2016 through 2019.

Water

Lake Caldonazzo. The bathing area extends 1.55 square kilometres. Altitude is 449 metres above sea level. The lake is located in the Brenta watershed.

Location

Located in the municipality of Pergine Valsugana in the province of Trento, Trentino-Alto Adige region. The beach is positioned at the northern extremity of Lake Caldonazzo. Parking areas and local access roads are available behind the beach.

Facilities

Public bathroom, bar, children's play equipment. Dogs are permitted on approximately 400 square metres of the beach (Bau-Beach area).

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Excellent (2016–2019). Total phosphorus concentration averaged 21 µg/l for the 2014–2016 period. Nitrate concentrations are well below vulnerability thresholds. Internal phosphorus loading from sediment release during anoxic periods represents approximately 28% of total phosphorus load. No sewage discharge enters the lake; treated wastewater from the intercommunal sewerage network serving surrounding municipalities is discharged to the Brenta River. Potential risks include malfunction of a pumping station at Calceranica that could release raw sewage into the area, and possible untreated effluent overflow into Torrente Mandola during heavy rainfall due to incomplete separation of municipal sewerage networks.

Risks

Cyanobacterial blooms. Cyanodictyon sp. was detected in May 2016 at 3.11×10⁴ cell/ml. No toxic events have been reported. Potential for raw sewage release from pumping station malfunction or overflow during intense precipitation.
