Zona Dispensario is a bathing area in Ventimiglia consisting of two sandy coves protected by artificial barriers. The area includes both private beach establishments with services and free public beach access, with the Cavallotti promenade and Ventimiglia town centre located inland. The bathing water is classified as excellent based on the 2020–2023 four-year assessment period.

Coastal water body of the Ventimiglia–Bordighera water body. The bathing area covers 0.604 km² and comprises two sandy coves protected by artificial barriers.

Location

Private beach establishments with services and free public beach access. Accommodation structures and catering facilities are available.

Water Quality

Classification: Excellent (based on four-year evaluation period 2020–2023). An emergency sewage pipe passes approximately 15 metres west of the monitoring point and discharges approximately 300 metres offshore, outside the bathing water. The Rio delle Vacche stream mouth is directly adjacent to the bathing water.

Risks

During heavy precipitation events, increased stream flow from the Rio delle Vacche may transport effluents towards the bathing water. The Ligurian Sea is not characterised by cyanobacterial blooms due to oligotrophic conditions. Ostreopsis ovata microalgae proliferation has been observed in Liguria; the monitoring station at Tino in Mortola recorded no exceedances of the 30,000 cells/litre limit between 2019–2023. Inhalation of Ostreopsis ovata aerosol can cause temporary and reversible respiratory effects in sensitive individuals.
