Camping Marotta Ex Battisti is a bathing beach in Mondolfo, Marche region, with fine quartz and feldspar sand mixed with calcareous shelly sediment. The beach has a gentle slope of 3% and extends approximately 25 metres in width. The beach is protected by artificial rocky outcrops, with water depths ranging from 80 metres from the shoreline to the high water mark. The surrounding area is urbanised with a railway line passing nearby.

Water

Coastal marine water body within the Fano-Senigallia water body classification. Beach area extends 0.33876 square kilometres. Average water distance from shore to safe water limits is 80 metres. Astronomical tide range 30–50 centimetres.

Facilities

Pavement, cycle path, disabled access ramps, first aid and lifeguard services, toilet facilities including disabled access toilets, disabled beach access platforms, refreshment points on the beach and promenade. No animal access permitted.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: E (poorest classification). Monitoring conducted on the Marotta treatment plant showed 12 controls of Table 1 parameters and 3 controls of Table 3 parameters over the last 4 years, all compliant with legal limits. Treated wastewater approximately 2,500–3,000 cubic metres discharges to the Marotta treatment plant at the Cesano River mouth. Some inland areas discharge directly to natural ditches without treatment.

Risks

Non-toxic microalgae blooms recorded: Chaetoceros socialis in 2008 and Fibrocapsa japonica in 2009, causing abnormal discolouration of seawater. Untreated wastewater discharges from inland areas in the hinterland.
