Moletto is a fine sandy beach with quartz-feldspar and calcareous composition in Mondolfo, Marche region. The beach has a gentle 3% slope and is protected by artificial rocky outcrops. The average distance from the water line to the safe water limit is 80 metres. The surrounding area contains urban settlements and a railway line passes nearby.

Coastal marine water. Beach width averages 28 metres. Water distance from beach at low tide to safe water limit is 80 metres. Astronomical tide range is 30–50 centimetres.

Location

Mondolfo, Pesaro Urbino province, Marche region. Tourism office: Villa Valentina, Viale Carducci n° 85, Marotta di Mondolfo, tel. 0721/960665. Parking for boats is available.

Facilities

Sidewalk, cycle path, wheelchair access ramps, first aid and rescue services, toilets including disabled facilities, disabled access platform to the sea, free beach, windsurf sports centre, refreshment points on the promenade.

Water Quality

Classification category E. The coastal area is served by separate sewer collectors conveying 2,500–3,000 cubic metres of wastewater to the Marotta treatment plant at the Cesano river mouth. Inland areas and the historic centre discharge directly into natural ditches without treatment. A general valley collector project is underway to redirect untreated discharges to the treatment plant. The Marotta plant has passed all 12 table 1 and 3 parameter controls over the last 4 years according to legal limits.

Risks

Non-toxic microalgae blooms of Chaetoceros socialis (2008) and Fibrocapsa japonica (2009) caused anomalous water discoloration.
