Fosso Bastia is a bathing water located in Mondolfo, Marche region, on a fine quartz-feldspathic and calcareous sandy beach with an average slope of 3%. The beach is protected by artificial rocky outcrops and has an average distance of 80 metres between medium-low and high water and safe water limits. The surrounding area consists of urban settlements with a railway line passing through.

Coastal bathing water. Beach width: 30 metres average. Distance between water at medium-low and high tide: 80 metres. Astronomical tide range: 30–50 centimetres. Area: 0.24597 hectares.

Facilities

Sidewalk, bicycle lane, disabled access ramps, first aid and lifeguard services, toilets with disabled facilities, disabled access platform to sea, food and beverage points on beach and promenade. Free access.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: E (poor). In 2012, the classification was assessed as Category C. Over the last 4 years, 12 monitoring controls were performed on Table 1 parameters and 3 on Table 3 parameters at the Marotta treatment plant; all results were compliant with legal limits. Pollution source: discharge of Fosso Bastia which conveys stormwater.

Risks

Non-toxic microalgae blooms recorded: Chaetoceros socialis (2008) and Fibrocapsa japonica (2009), causing anomalous water discoloration. Untreated wastewater from inland areas historically discharged directly into natural watercourses.
