Carciano

Italy Lake 1 - Excellent

Lido Carciano is a pebbly beach located near the Mottarone cable car station on Lake Maggiore in Stresa, Piedmont. The beach has a width of 46 metres and is classified as excellent quality based on routine monitoring data from 2020–2023. The bathing water shows low levels of E. coli and enterococci, well within safety standards. The area is public and available for swimming and water sports.

Water Quality

Classification: Excellent. Based on 18 routine samples collected between 2020 and 2023. E. coli 90th percentile: 60.8 MPN/100 ml; 95th percentile: 110.6 MPN/100 ml. Enterococci 90th percentile: 73.3 MPN/100 ml; 95th percentile: 131.8 MPN/100 ml.

Risks

A pumping station is located within 200 metres of the bathing zone. Intense rainfall can trigger overflow structures and accidental failures of pumping stations may discharge untreated effluent into the lake. Sparse houses upstream may not be connected to the sewage network. Boats may release mineral oils or fuel. No cyanobacterial proliferation events have been detected in the past four years. No macroalgae or phytoplankton proliferation has been observed. No anomalous events were recorded.
