Isola Bella

Italy Lake 1 - Excellent

Isola Bella is a public bathing beach on Lake Maggiore in the Piedmont region of Italy. The beach is composed of gravel and measures 56 metres in width. Water quality is classified as excellent based on routine sampling data from 2020–2023. The bathing area is one of the three Borromean Islands and is designated as a lake bathing water body.

Water Quality

Classification: Excellent. Based on 18 routine samples from 2020–2023. Escherichia coli 90th percentile: 48.1 MPN/100 ml; 95th percentile: 78.4 MPN/100 ml. Enterococci 90th percentile: 60.0 MPN/100 ml; 95th percentile: 103.7 MPN/100 ml. Civil discharge outlet located approximately 200 metres from the monitoring zone. Wastewater treatment plant approximately 10 km to the south; island connected to Carciano pumping station. Boats may release mineral oils or fuel.

Risks

Intense precipitation may cause untreated wastewater to enter the lake. Poor management of the sewerage network is a possible pollution source. No anomalous events have been recorded. No cyanobacterial growth has been detected. No macroalgae, phytoplankton, or toxic species proliferation has been observed.
