Borromeo Beach is a pebbly beach located near the Hotel des Iles Borromées in Stresa on Lake Maggiore in northern Italy. The beach spans 57 metres in width and is situated at 200 metres above sea level. Water quality is classified as Good based on routine monitoring samples from 2021–2024. The beach is open to the public and permits water sports activities.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Good. Based on 18 routine samples from 2021–2024. Escherichia coli 90th percentile: 275.9 MPN/100 ml; 95th percentile: 588.7 MPN/100 ml. Enterococci 90th percentile: 97.9 MPN/100 ml; 95th percentile: 176.2 MPN/100 ml. The wastewater treatment plant is located 10 km south of the monitoring point.

Risks

A stream approximately 200 metres from the monitoring zone may influence water quality. An overflow structure is present. Heavy precipitation can trigger overflow systems and cause untreated sewage to enter the lake. Accidental failures of lifting equipment may release untreated effluent. Vessels may release mineral oils or fuel. No cyanobacteria proliferation has been detected. No macroalgae, phytoplankton, or toxic effects on swimmers have been recorded.
