Water Quality

Water quality classification: GOOD. Based on 18 routine samples collected 2020–2023. Escherichia coli: 90th percentile 129.4 MPN/100 ml, 95th percentile 234.2 MPN/100 ml. Enterococci: 90th percentile 138.5 MPN/100 ml, 95th percentile 222.0 MPN/100 ml. The bathing area falls within the Maggiore 11 homogeneous zone with medium-high pressure classification due to high density of sewage pipes. A tributary stream approximately 200 metres upstream may influence water quality. Wastewater treatment: sewage treatment plant located 10 kilometres south of the monitoring point.

Risks

A tributary stream approximately 200 metres from the monitoring zone may influence bathing water quality. Scattered dwellings upstream may not be connected to the sewage network. Vessels may release mineral oils and fuels. Intense precipitation can trigger overflow structures and accidental failures of pumping systems may discharge untreated effluent into the lake. Potential source of pollution: inadequate management of the sewage network.
