Water Quality

Water quality classification: Excellent (2008-2011). Identified pollution sources include a treatment plant (Depuratore Portobello), an active discharge pipe, and port activities. A bloom of potentially toxic algal strains (Ostreopsis ovata) was recorded in September 2008. The Ligurian Sea is not characterised by cyanobacterial blooms due to oligotrophic conditions.

Risks

Potentially toxic algal strains were present in 2008 (Ostreopsis ovata). Short-term pollution events and anomalous situations are assessed using a modelling approach under development.
