Foce Canale Ravino is a predominantly sandy beach located in Sestri Levante, Liguria. The beach is 0.223 km in extent and is surrounded by urban settlements and summer tourism facilities including bathing establishments, shops, recreational areas, hotels, and a seafront promenade with cycling path. The beach achieved an Excellent classification based on 2016–2019 monitoring data.

Coastal water body in the Chiavari–Sestri Levante system classified as mountainous upland waters with low stability. The drainage basin is Rio Valle Ravino.

Location

Sestri Levante, Genova province, Liguria region. The beach is accessible to visitors and offers parking facilities among other amenities.

Water Quality

Classification: Excellent (4-year assessment 2016–2019). Enterococchi intestinali 90th percentile: 15.2 UFC/100 ml; 95th percentile: 23.9 UFC/100 ml. Escherichia coli 90th percentile: 48.4 MPN/100 ml; 95th percentile: 68.3 MPN/100 ml. No wastewater treatment pipes or processing facilities are present in the area.

Risks

Short-duration pollution events may occur from increased streamflow of Rio Valle Ravino and Torrente Gromolo during heavy rainfall, potentially transporting effluent downstream. Ostreopsis ovata microalgae proliferation has been documented in the regional monitoring area; exceedances of 30,000 cells/litre occurred in July 2017 and 2019 at the reference station Chiavari. Inhalation of Ostreopsis ovata aerosol can cause temporary and reversible respiratory symptoms and fever in sensitive individuals.
