Coastal water body with area of 0.254 km². Predominantly sandy beach with rocky coastline on the eastern section. Water type classified as mountain streams with low stability.

Location

Sestri Levante, Genova province, Liguria region. The bathing water body is located in the Chiavari - Sestri Levante water system. Access is available via the seafront promenade, cycling path, and nearby railway and SS1 road.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Good (2020-2023 four-year evaluation). The Ligurian Sea is not characterized by cyanobacterial blooms due to predominantly oligotrophic conditions. Monitoring station reference: CHIA at Chiavari. Ostreopsis ovata microalgae proliferation has occurred in the region over the past decade; one exceedance of 30,000 cells/litre was recorded at the reference station in July 2019, with values not exceeding 10,000 cells/litre in seasons 2018, 2020, 2021, and 2022.

Risks

Harbor pollution from the Sestri Levante tourist marina located approximately 280 meters east of the bathing water. Potential short-duration pollution events from the Valle Ravino stream outlet located outside the western boundary, caused by increased streamflow during heavy precipitation. Ostreopsis ovata microalgae can produce temporary and reversible effects from aerosol inhalation, including upper respiratory tract problems and fever in sensitive individuals.
