Colombo is a bathing water located in the eastern part of the Gulf of La Spezia, in the Liguria region of Italy. The beach is characterized by low-lying pebble and shingle substrate, backed by artificial embankments adjacent to the coastal road. The bathing area covers approximately 0.508 square kilometres. The water body is classified as a coastal water with mountainous topography and low stability.

Location

The bathing water is located in the municipality of Lerici, La Spezia province, Liguria region, Italy. It is situated in the eastern part of the Seno di San Terenzo (Gulf of La Spezia).

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Excellent (2008-2011). No coastal wastewater treatment plants, Imhoff tanks, or outfalls are present in the area. An empirical modelling approach for characterizing pollution events and sources is under development.

Risks

An empirical modelling approach for characterizing short-duration pollution events and anomalous situations is under development. Cyanobacterial blooms are not characteristic of the Ligurian Sea due to predominant oligotrophic conditions. No cases of toxic algal strain proliferation have occurred in the past four years.
