San Terenzo Spiaggia Paese is a sandy beach enclosed within a cove and bordered to the southwest by artificial structures arranged parallel and perpendicular to the shore. The beach is located in the Gulf of La Spezia in the Liguria region. The water quality has been classified as excellent for the four-year period 2020–2023.

Coastal water body in the Gulf of La Spezia, category 'Rocky Terrain Low Stability' (CWA3). The bathing water area extends 0.404 km². The beach is sandy.

Location

San Terenzo, Lerici, La Spezia province, Liguria region. The beach is situated in front of the populated centre of San Terenzo. Contact: Comune di Lerici, Piazza Bacigalupi 9, 19032 Lerici SP, +39 0187 9601.

Water Quality

Water quality classification for 2020–2023: Excellent. The Ligurian Sea is not characterized by cyanobacterial blooms due to predominantly oligotrophic conditions. Ostreopsis ovata microalgae proliferation has been monitored; reference station at Baia in Lerici showed no exceedance of the 30,000 cell/l limit from 2019 to 2023, though values between 10,000–30,000 cell/l were recorded in July–August 2019, September 2020–2021, June–July 2022, and July 2023.

Risks

A sewage pipe located west of the sampling point discharges approximately 480 m from the shore. Port pollution from the Lerici tourist marina is present east of the sampling point, outside the bathing water area. During heavy precipitation, increased flow from the Fosso del Lizzo and Fosso Portiola streams may transport sewage downstream to the bathing water. Ostreopsis ovata can cause temporary and reversible respiratory problems and fever in sensitive individuals through aerosol inhalation.
