Foce Torrente Nervia is a sandy-pebbly beach in Camporosso, Liguria, bounded to the west by an artificial cliff. The beach is free to access and located at the mouth of the Nervia torrent, an area formed by river deposits from the Val Nervia valley. The bathing water has been classified as excellent for the 2020–2023 four-year evaluation period.

Coastal Mediterranean waters (Ligurian Sea). The bathing area covers 0.138 km². The water body is part of the Ventimiglia-Bordighera water body and is categorized as mountainous coastal waters with low stability.

Location

Camporosso, Province of Imperia, Liguria region. The beach is located at the mouth of Torrente Nervia. Parking and facilities are available at a nearby campground.

Facilities

Free public beach. Facilities include a WWF faunal oasis and a nearby campground. A Special Interest Conservation Area (SIC) is present at Torrente Nervia.

Water Quality

Classification: Excellent (four-year evaluation 2020–2023). No sewage treatment plants are present directly within the bathing water. The Varaldo treatment plant discharges approximately 1.6 km from the beach, and the Vallecrosia treatment plant discharges approximately 1 km from the shore, both outside the bathing water area. The Ligurian Sea is characterized by oligotrophic conditions that prevent cyanobacterial blooms. The reference station at Tino in Mortola recorded no exceedances of Ostreopsis ovata limits (30,000 cells/litre) between 2019 and 2023.

Risks

During heavy rainfall and upstream critical events, increased torrent flow may transport wastewater downstream to the bathing area. Ostreopsis ovata microalgae blooms have occurred in Liguria over the past decade; inhalation of aerosol from this species can cause temporary and reversible effects including respiratory tract problems and fever in sensitive individuals.
