Depuratore is a granular beach in Ventimiglia, Liguria, consisting of three coves separated by artificial barriers. The area includes both private beach establishments with facilities and a free public beach, with a promenade and town centre nearby. The bathing water is classified as coastal, mountainous terrain with low stability.

Coastal water body. The bathing area extends 1.529 km and comprises the Ventimiglia-Bordighera body of water.

Location

Ventimiglia, Liguria, Italy. The beach extends along the Nervia stream mouth, near the town centre and Varaldo promenade. Access via Piazza della Libertà 3, Ventimiglia.

Water Quality

Four-year classification (2020–2023): Excellent. The Ligurian Sea does not experience cyanobacterial blooms due to oligotrophic conditions. Ostreopsis ovata microalgae have proliferated in Liguria for approximately one decade, but monitoring at the TINO reference station in Mortola (2019–2023) recorded no exceedances of the 30,000 cells/litre limit.

Risks

The active sewage outfall from Ventimiglia treatment plant discharges approximately 1,600 m from shore; the emergency outfall discharges approximately 108 m from shore, both outside the bathing water boundary. The Nervia stream mouth at the eastern boundary could transport effluents downstream during heavy rainfall and upstream flow conditions. Ostreopsis ovata exposure produces temporary, reversible respiratory tract effects and possible fever in sensitive individuals.
