Diga Ponente Interna is a bathing water area located on the western internal part of the breakwater facing the port of La Spezia in the Gulf of La Spezia. The area is classified as coastal waters with mountainous topography and low stability. Water quality has been rated as excellent based on monitoring data from 2008–2011. The Ligurian Sea is characterized by oligotrophic conditions that prevent cyanobacterial blooms and toxic algal proliferation.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Excellent (2008–2011). No coastal wastewater treatment plants, sewers, or Imhoff tanks are present in the area. The water exhibits oligotrophic conditions that prevent cyanobacterial and toxic algal blooms.

Risks

Short-duration pollution events and anomalous situations are under evaluation using a developing modelling approach. No cases of toxic algal strain proliferation have been recorded in the past four years.
