Egerup Strand

Egerup Strand is a sand beach located on the open coast facing Storebælt, oriented to the west. The beach is between 20 and 30 meters wide and approximately 420 meters long. The seabed to a depth of about 2 meters consists of sand with seaweed and stones, with reef formation beginning between 40 and 80 meters from the shore. Water depth at the beach is relatively shallow, extending between 120 and 180 meters to reach 2 meters depth.

Water

Saltwater body. The seabed consists of sand with seaweed and stones to approximately 2 meters depth. Reef formation begins between 40 and 80 meters from the shore. Water depth reaches 2 meters between 120 and 180 meters from the shore. Dominant current directions are from south and north, each representing 47% of measurements taken between 2013-2015.

Location

Egerup Strand is located in Slagelse Municipality, Denmark. Access is via Egerupvej, continuing toward Lindeskovshus with parking at the beach. The village of Egerup lies approximately 1 kilometer east of the beach.

Facilities

Parking available at the beach. No bathing pier has been constructed. Warning signs are posted at the parking area in case of degraded water quality.

Water Quality

Water quality is classified as excellent. Classification is based on data from 2012-2017. Monitoring is conducted 6 times per year. No connection has been demonstrated between current direction and increased pollution.

Risks

Low risk of cyanobacteria blooms. Risk of seaweed wash-up at the water's edge, though current conditions typically clear it within days. Glass shards, waste, and chemical pollution including oil spills may occasionally occur. Occasional short-term pollution risk from extreme rainfall, particularly affecting individual properties in the hinterland with poor wastewater treatment. Sudden contamination can occur from boat accidents, slurry tanks, and sewer lines.
