Kobæk Strand

Kobæk Strand is a sandy beach on the open coast facing Skælskør Red/Storebælt in Denmark, oriented west. The beach is 25 to 50 metres wide and approximately 600 metres long. The seabed to about 2 metres depth consists of sand without seaweed and stones, with reef formation beginning 40 to 60 metres from the shore. Water quality is classified as excellent based on data from 2012–2017.

Water

Saltwater beach. The seabed to approximately 2 metres depth consists of sand. Water depth varies between 80 and 120 metres to reach 2 metres depth due to tidal and weather effects. Dominant current directions are from north (52% of measurements) and south (45% of measurements) based on 38 measurements between 2012–2015.

Location

Kobæk Strand is located in Slagelse Municipality, approximately 1.3 kilometres west of Skælskør. Access is via Kobækvej. Parking is available at the beach or 480 metres east of the beach along Kobækvej. Disabled parking and toilets are located approximately 50 metres from the shore.

Lifeguard post, toilets, parking, disabled access, disabled parking, first aid equipment, emergency telephone, bathing bridge, information board for water quality warnings.

Water Quality

Water quality is classified as excellent. Classification is based on data from 2012–2017. The beach is designated a Blue Flag beach. Monitoring is conducted 10 times per year.

Risks

Risk of blue-green algae blooms is low but can occur during warm periods with high nutrients. Macroalgae (seaweed) regularly washes ashore but is typically removed within a few days by favourable current conditions; Slagelse Municipality regularly removes washed-up seaweed during the bathing season. Glass shards, litter, and chemical pollution including oil spills may occasionally occur.
