Engelsholm Sø is a bathing area located near Nørup, approximately 10 km west of Vejle. The bathing spot consists of a small bathing bridge with no regular beach area and features relatively shallow water. The water body drains into the upper section of Vejle Å.

Freshwater lake. The water flow direction is typically from the west. Relatively low water depth. Visibility (secchi depth) is measured during water quality sampling.

Location

Located near Nørup, approximately 10 km west of Vejle. The bathing area is accessible from the parking area (parkeringspladserne).

Official monitoring season: 1 June to 15 September.

Water Quality

Water classified as excellent based on data from 2018–2021. Monitoring conducted during bathing season (1 June to 15 September) by Vejle Kommune. Monitoring schedule available on the municipality website.

Risks

Risk of cyanobacteria (blue-green algae) blooms, typically occurring after rainy periods followed by warm weather. Macroalgae (seaweed) can occur in water margin; bathing is discouraged near large accumulations of washed-up seaweed due to potential toxin formation and protection of disease-causing bacteria from UV rays. Risk of phytoplankton growth assessed as small, highest risk in late summer. Short-term pollution from heavy rainfall (lasting typically maximum 3 days). Occasional occurrence of glass shards, waste, chemical pollution including oil spills. Phytoplankton and cyanobacteria blooms cannot be predicted; warning signs displayed when detected.
