Færgehavnen Strand is a bathing area located in a sheltered position within an old harbour basin in Slagelse Municipality, Denmark. The beach is a pebble strand oriented toward the southwest, measuring between 2 and 5 meters wide and approximately 30 meters long, with pebbles measuring 3–5 centimeters. Preliminary water quality analysis from 2016 and 2017 indicated excellent water quality. The seabed consists of sand and stones to a depth of approximately 2 meters, after which it becomes rapidly deeper. The water is classified as saltwater.

Depths vary but become rapidly deeper due to the former ferry harbour designation. The beach is a pebble strand 2–5 meters wide and approximately 30 meters long, oriented southwest, with 3–5 centimeter pebbles.

Location

Færgehavnen is located in Slagelse Municipality, Denmark. Access is via Revvej, with parking available at the entrance to the area. A gravel path leads from the car park to the beach.

Facilities

Informational board at the beach entrance. Parking available. An application for Blue Flag status has been submitted.

Water Quality

Preliminary analysis results from 2016 and 2017 showed excellent water quality. A final classification has not yet been formally established, though possible classifications are excellent quality, good quality, satisfactory quality, or poor quality. The bathing water station was newly established at the time of this profile. Monitoring is conducted 10 times annually.

Risks

Risk of sudden pollution from accidents such as leisure boat incidents. Low risk of cyanobacterial blooms, though these can occur suddenly during prolonged warm periods with high nutrient levels in the water. Cyanobacteria can produce toxic substances causing headaches, skin irritation, fever, nausea, and diarrhea. Risk of seaweed washup in the water's edge; large quantities are removed if they accumulate. Plankton overgrowth can accumulate in shellfish and cause food poisoning if consumed, though toxic plankton has not been detected in open areas. Glass shards, waste, and chemical pollution including oil spills can occasionally occur at the beach. Approximately 1 kilometer down the coast, a combined sewage system overflow exists that can cause fecal pollution during extreme rainfall. A residential area at Revvej is connected to a separate public sewage system with separate rainwater and wastewater pipes; there is no immediate risk of overflow events from this source.
